"When we were looking for an appropriate city in which to host the International Data Protection Conference, Cardiff looked to be an exciting place, within easy reach of everything - it also had hotel accommodation close to the Conference centre - City Hall... The opening dinner was set in the stunning grounds of Cardiff Castle with its peacocks and magnificent historical setting, whilst the Conference dinner was held in the National Museum of Wales with a spectacular male voice choir offering an international repertoire... The combination of all these factors served to make Cardiff a city that was definitely able to hold its own for such a high profile event, next to previous international venues such as Hong Kong, Venice and Paris." Vibrant Cardiff is a vibrant cosmopolitan Capital and one of the UKs leading conference/event destinations. It is the city that has it all, a wealth of history, architecture, sport, shopping, museums, bustling bars/restaurants and castle with over 2000 years of history within its walls. Cardiff has played host to many prestigious events such as the European Summit 1998, Labour Party Spring Conference 2002 and major international sporting events.
Adaptable Cardiff boasts an array of outstanding venues from the impressive Millennium Stadium to the inspiring Civic Buildings. We are able to host events up to 5,500 delegates and provide exhibition space of 40,000 sq metres.
Stunning Cardiff is a stunning waterfront city with wonderful buildings and parkland. Visitors who come to Cardiff for the first time are always pleasantly surprised. Cardiff Bay has recently been transformed into an exciting leisure complex. The bay has been flooded with the introduction of the barrage, which has created a vast fresh water lake where you can take a boat tour and discover some of its history or maybe try something a little more adventurous such as a speedboat trip. It is the home of the first purpose built 5* Sir Rocco Forte hotel, "The St Davids Hotel and Spa". You can return to your youth at Techniquest science museum, stop for a coffee in the Norwegian Church or explore the many restaurants and bars, serving food from all corners of the world.
Relaxing After a long busy day why not spend some time unwinding, theres plenty to see and do. If you or your delegates are lucky enough to have spare time in the evening or maybe during the day, whatever your needs you can be sure they will be catered for, from the Theatre, Casinos, Museums, Restaurants, Bars and Clubs and probably the most important one of them all shopping. The city has a wide variety of shops from national chains such as House of Fraser, Marks & Spencers and Debenhams to more unusual boutiques and independents, situated in modern malls and Victorian arcades. All this activity is centred around Queen St, the pedestrianised heart of the shopping mecca. Cardiff is compact and easy to navigate, dubbed the "10 minute" city, so wherever you are youre never far from your next port of call.
Accessible Cardiff is easily accessible by road, rail or air, situated two hours from Birmingham and London. With a new flight service from BMI Baby operating out of Cardiff International Airport from the end of October 2002, plus other scheduled services, the rest of the UK and Europe are only a stones throw away.
